Gold-filled is a thick layer of solid gold that’s permanently bonded to a brass core. With at least 5% real gold by weight, it looks and wears like solid gold for years when cared for properly—much more durable than standard gold plating.
- Composition: typically 1/20 14K (a.k.a. 14/20 GF) bonded over jeweler’s brass
- Durability: gold layer is substantially thicker than plating; won’t rub off or flake with normal wear
- Color options: yellow or rose (from the karat alloy used for the outer layer)
- Hallmark: often stamped “1/20 14K GF” or “14/20 GF”
- Skin sensitivity: generally well-tolerated; choose nickel-free findings if you have sensitive skin
