Jewelry Care Guide

Handcrafted jewelry is made to be worn and loved, and a little care keeps it beautiful for years. Start with the general tips below, then find the guidance for the materials in your piece.

General Care

For all pieces
  • Do not expose jewelry to perfumes, lotions, hairspray, sunscreen, or household chemicals.
  • Do not wear jewelry while swimming, showering, or in saunas or hot tubs.
  • Avoid prolonged moisture, humidity, and direct sunlight when storing jewelry.
  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry, non-abrasive cloth after wearing.
  • Do not polish with any abrasive materials or compounds.
  • Store each piece separately to help prevent scratches, tangling, and tarnish.

Metal Care

  • Do not expose plated or vermeil jewelry to water, perfumes, lotions, or cleaning products, as this can reduce the life of the finish.
  • Avoid wearing jewelry containing metal during exercise, swimming, or household cleaning.
  • Do not use chemical dips on pieces that include any stones or plating.
  • For sterling silver, gently polish with a soft silver polishing cloth as needed.
  • Wipe metal pieces after wearing to remove oils and perspiration.
  • Store metal jewelry separately in a soft pouch or box to help prevent scratches and maintain shine.

Gemstone Care

  • Do not use ultrasonic, steam, or chemical jewelry cleaners on gemstone pieces unless a specific stone is confirmed safe for that method.
  • Do not expose gemstones to chlorine, harsh cleaning products, or sudden temperature changes.
  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight for stones that may fade over time.
  • Wipe gemstones gently with a soft cloth and avoid abrasive polishing cloths on softer stones.
  • Store gemstone jewelry separately to help prevent scratches and chips.

Pearl Care

  • Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners.
  • Do not use chemical jewelry cleaners on pearls.
  • Avoid friction and contact with harder gemstones or metals, as pearls can scratch easily.
  • Gently wipe pearls with a soft, slightly damp cloth and let them dry completely before storing.
  • Store pearl jewelry separately in a soft pouch or box to prevent abrasion.

Shell Care

  • Do not expose shell jewelry to perfumes, lotions, hairspray, or household cleaners.
  • Do not use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical jewelry solutions on shell pieces.
  • Do not submerge shell jewelry in water or wear it while swimming or showering.
  • Clean shells gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry completely before storing.
  • Store shell jewelry separately to help prevent scratches, as shell surfaces are more delicate than metal.

Coral Care

  • Do not use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or chemical jewelry solutions on coral.
  • Avoid friction or impact, as coral is a soft organic gem that can chip or scratch easily.
  • Wipe coral gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry completely before storing.
  • Store coral jewelry separately in a soft pouch or box to prevent abrasion.
