Abalone Shell Sterling Silver Drop Earrings

These handcrafted sterling silver earrings showcase the remarkable beauty of Paua shell, a highly prized variety of abalone known for its exceptional iridescence and vivid color play. Each rectangular Paua shell cabochon displays its own unique blend of shimmering greens, teals, blues, golds, and soft pinks, creating an ever-changing display of color as it catches the light. The clean rectangular silhouette is paired with beautifully textured silver studs for a contemporary yet timeless look.

Each earring begins with a handcrafted sterling silver disc stud measuring approximately 9–10mm in diameter. The distinctive surface texture of the discs was created using a metalsmithing technique called reticulation, where sterling silver is carefully heated to develop organic ripples, valleys, and raised textures. Because these patterns form naturally during the process, no two reticulated surfaces can ever be exactly replicated, making every pair subtly unique.

Suspended from each stud is a rectangular 15x10mm Paua shell cabochon set in sterling silver. The earrings measure approximately 1.1 inches in total length with a 0.7-inch drop length. Together, the pair weighs approximately 6.77 grams, giving them a comfortable, substantial feel without looking or feeling overly heavy.. While every pair is crafted using Paua shell from the same carefully selected lot and will feature the same beautiful quality and vibrant iridescence, each shell cabochon is naturally unique.
